BIO
Alexander Rau is an Information Security professional with over 17 years of experience in Cybersecurity, IT and Privacy. He has provided leadership to a number of multinational organizations, including FireEye’s Mandiant Security Consulting Services, leading and delivering incident response and strategic cybersecurity engagements, practice leadership, and business development. Prior to Mandiant, he held prominent roles as the National IT Security Strategist for Symantec Canada, as well as Service Delivery Management and Senior IT Security Consulting roles with IBM. These roles have included cybersecurity evangelism, conducting media interviews, keynote speaker and panelist engagements, strategic organizational development, leading security teams focused on vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, web application security, and IT Security standard and framework compliance (ISO 27000 series and PCI). He was also the Manager of IT for a small manufacturing company in Central Ontario.
Alexander holds CISSP and CISM certifications and throughout his career has leveraged his business and cybersecurity background to advise public sector and private enterprise clients on next generation threat prevention technologies, methodologies and cybersecurity and resiliency concepts. He has extensive experience in leading high performance teams, engagement and client success, executive and business relationships along with an analytical approach to solving technical issues.
From 2008 to 2015 Alexander was also part-time faculty at Georgian College in Barrie and Orillia Ontario, teaching Computer and Network Systems Security. Combining his knowledge and professional experiences in IT and cybersecurity management, consulting and strategy, with his former finance and economics background, he brought unique professional qualifications, experience, and perspectives to emerging cybersecurity professionals, addressing the ever-changing security landscape and how it impacts organizations.
